Almaty International Film Festival 2007

Never in my lifetime I would imagine that I will touch the land of Kazaksthan. When I was invited by the Almaty International Film Festival Shaken's Stars for my film - 'Closer Apart' (all thanks to Director Omirbayev Darezhan for his recommendation), I never even think twice to say 'YES!' to the trip, and it proved that the trip was very worthwhile and different. The festival was full of surprises, one after another. And it was also full of eating, full of drinking, full of dancing, full of clapping, everyday. It was really quite a 'culture surprise' for me and the many of us. All I say is that, Almaty, the festival and the people, was truly full of life and full of fun.

The unforgettable 100m red carpet walk at the Opening Ceremony.

The thousands cheered for you and suddenly, you felt like a star . . .

The HUGE Grand Theatre with those large thick heavy velvet curtains - a second shock for most of us after the long red carpet walk.

The Festival invited us for a skyride to enjoy the beautiful highland scenery of Almaty.

Me and my volunteer, Bota. I remember telling her that we are going up the mountain to meet God and tell Him our secret wishes . . .

We had feasts like that everyday. And, this is only the appetizers.

Petek, Jong Kwan and Ifa. Friends you make during the festival.
