很会做菜的老师这样对我说:
一个人的龙虾大餐
不比两个人的酱油拌饭。

In memory of my Grandpa - Yu Soh See
I never
really knew my grandpa.
He
passed away when I was only 2 years old.
Mum
told me that grandpa loved us (me and my brothers) very much.
Many
times, he bought us sweets even though he was very poor.
He died
of a heart attack while riding his bicycle to work one day.
His
body was found lying by the side of the road.
Many
years later, while we were packing the house after my grandma has also passed
on. We found this little wooden “emblem” in one of the old drawers. Mum told me
it belonged to grandpa. She explained most people at that time were illiterate
and they had to make a “seal” with their names carved on it. They will use it
to sign on any documents that required their signatures. So, this is grandpa’s
signature.
I asked
for this seal. This is probably the only thing my grandpa had left behind and
probably the most precious possession I can ever received in memory of someone
who loved me that I have no memory of.
That
day, it was also the first time I knew grandpa’s name.
